
Domestic Violence can involve, been beaten, verbally attacked or emotionally stressed by an intimate partner or a family relative within the home. British Crime Survey found that there were around 12.9 million incidents of domestic violence acts that constituted non-sexual threats or force against women. The Government defines domestic violence as "Any incident of threatening behavior, violence or abuse psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional between adults who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality", (Women Aid Federation 2003). The cost of domestic violence to the government is a average of 23 billion pounds per year.
